OK so this is where I really started fleshing out the characters and what I wanted to do with them. I really enjoyed Barry Kitson's designs but to be honesty they were too intricate for me to draw..hehe. I wanted to simply their look and combine some of the old elements with the now. Also I wanted it to be timeless and not use too many "modern" designs as in a few years it will be dated. I found the best approach was to look at the Dave Cockrum era of the Legion along with the earliest I could find and see what I could do with those as a starting point. More or less you can see that I borrowed liberally from different eras the main goal was to just keep it simple.
I am so freaking happy you on on the Legion right now. Your designs are so nice and your pages are amazing. I hope you get a long run as the artist for it

this is looking really cool, who are you going to have ink this project? I think that is going to be the difference because your work is really cool, but sometimes an inker can take away from the magic you do, you know?

ahhh yes!! these are actually my favorite drawings of yours! so i will speak at length!! i think these costumes are the best the legion's ever had, honestly!! a problem i had with others is that they never looked "future" enough! also, i think these are very sensible (imra's not wearing a swim suit or a dress, for example).
and that is the brainiac-coat that made me fall in love with your art!! and the brainiac 5-face. he looks so distinguished and handsome! all of your men have very handsome faces, this is something not many artists comics understand how to achieve! even when brin makes scary faces, he looks really cool!
also, i think you draw the girls in a very nice way that doesn't offend my senses. they all look really cool and match nicely with the boys, not like scary space hookers! i remember in the last issue Saturn was in a tank naked but she didn't look slutty, she just looked very pretty! so, from all the female readers, thanks for that!!!
these sketches even show how good you are making characters look different from each other (lyle looks different from star boy and b5, none of them look like the same guy in a different uniform) etc!!
livesay is inking all of my work right now and I think he's doing a great job. If you look at the cover process work I've posted I think you can see that livesay is doing a bang up job!
thanks! coming into the book and looking at the trade to be honest at times I couldn't tell them apart, most of them sorta had similar hair and if it were a silhouette it would be hard to decipher. Jim was right on the money when he sent me a physiotype of all the characters he wanted to make sure they were all different. Things like Invisible Kid should be a bit more round and less the typical skinny kid. He also wanted me to add a bit more weight on Saturn Girl and make her more of a hippy girl, and that starboy should be tall and lean and Karate kid should be a bit more built considering his body is his weapon and it's all self made! He was great with that kinda detail. And as for the costumes thanks I'm glad that you like them! I'm not gonna take credit for the B5 costume as it was a play on his original costume in the golden age aside from a few alterations. But for me that made sense..he doesn't need to be in battle so why would he wear tights? it just made sense that he'd be more functional. Anyways I'm rambling...
