I saw this online on the Newsarama [link] blog so I figured it must be ok for me to post the black and white.

wow. This is wonderful! I like seeing the pencil stage. And it is nice to know that is cleaned up a little.
Its great that you are inking your own work. Does it make it easier when planning out the shading?

How/when did you start inking your own work? This is awesome BTW.

I've been inking my own commissions for quite some time, but it was just this past november that I decided to carry it over to my interior and professional work.

So you worked out the kinks professionally doing it with commissions? I'm thinking of trying to ink my own stuff but am kind of hesitant.

yeah pretty much...I mean I practiced in my sketchbook a little but mostly I learned new tricks as I worked on commissions. As for hesitation, you kinda just have to do it or don't. There isn't really a half way. If you hesitate as you ink you kinda mess up the linework and make it wobbly. You have to do your strokes quick and fast in order to keep them smooth and clean. Like I said though I'm still learning as I go so you kinda just have to throw your self into it if you want to ink your own work.

I def think I will. I just think it's a better way to get your stuff set into the final product. Any pen's or instruments you use that you could suggest?

question for you? what is your usual approach to starting a drawing? do you start with thumbnails? go straight to good paper? which hardness of pencils do you use?
